Coinbase Global has appointed Anthony Armstrong to its Board of Directors as the cryptocurrency company expands its financial and technology expertise at the board level.
Armstrong joined the board on September 1, 2026, increasing its membership from nine to 10 directors. He will also serve on Coinbase's Audit Committee.
His background includes investment banking, technology companies, and corporate financial management. Before joining Coinbase, Armstrong was the chief financial officer for Elon Musk-linked companies, including xAI, X.AI Corp., and X Corp. In those roles, he oversaw financial planning and operational strategy.
Armstrong previously spent nearly 10 years at Morgan Stanley. During that time, he helped establish and manage the firm's global technology mergers and acquisitions practice before becoming vice chairman of investment banking.
He also worked as a senior adviser in the Executive Office of the President, where he supported the Department of Government Efficiency on efforts to improve the operations of large, complex organizations.
Coinbase said Armstrong's experience in traditional finance and high-growth technology companies fits its focus on disciplined execution and business expansion.
According to a company regulatory filing, the Nominating and Corporate Governance Committee recommended Armstrong for the position. He will serve through Coinbase's 2027 annual meeting of shareholders unless his board service ends earlier.
Armstrong's appointment gives Coinbase's board additional experience in finance and technology as the company continues to grow its cryptocurrency and digital asset businesses.
